Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
